My Story..
Some people say if you want to embark on a personal growth journey then start a business. I could not agree more! These past two years of going from being a “health-care employee” to “business owner” has been quite the roller coaster ride. An extra layer of complexity is added since my “business partners” are 1000lbs and do not speak English.
About a year ago, my mare Bonnie decided she did not want to work with people anymore. Her behavior had changed dramatically. She became a loner in the herd, aggressive towards any and all horses that walked by her and was pinning her ears towards all people (including myself). We did body work, vet exams, supplements and tested her for ulcers. Nothing seemed to be helping and nobody could offer me any suggestions on what to do.
At the same time, I was dealing with my own chronic pain health issues (multiple sports injuries) and herniated disks at L4-L5 and S1-S2. I was doing all the right things but still not seeing a whole lot of improvement. I saw a spinal surgeon who said based on my imaging I needed to have surgery, but I was determined to heal without surgical intervention.
I had heard about how traumas, strong emotions and stressful situations if not processed could be stored in the body and present themselves with physical symptoms, illness, or pain. Out of curiosity really, I wanted to explore these ideas and found the book “The Emotion Code” and “The Body Code” by Bradley Nelson. I learned the skill of muscle testing and started practicing right away.
After initially working on myself, I turned my focus to the horses and discovered that they were all holding onto things that clients were bringing with them. Horses are like “empaths on steroids” and feel everything a client feels, things, worries about etc.. Even though we learn clearing and grounding practices to help keep our horses balanced, it was not enough.
It took me about 4-6 weeks of working on Bonnie to clear out the “baggage” she was holding onto. Week after week, I noticed subtle positive shifts in her demeanor, behavior and temperament. I also let her know that she did not have to work with clients anymore if she did not wish to. I was giving her autonomy, and the combination of listening, understanding and releasing helped Bonnie feel like she had a voice and what she had to say mattered.
I am now happy to report Bonnie is back working with clients, at her choosing and I am back at Crossfit doing all the things I love to do! It was the missing piece I needed to embark on a healing journey.
I am now happy to share this gift with others who may be experiencing similar behavioral issues with their animals or for themselves. Sessions can be done via phone or email and a detailed report is provided. For more info, contact me directly!
